Panaeolus sphinctrinus
Panaeolus sphinctrinus (Agaricales - Incertae sedis) is a species of mushroom found throughout North America and temperate zones of the world.
Because of its close resemblance to the Mexican hallucinogenic mushrooms Psilocybe mexicana, and a misidentification of the ethnobotanist Richard Evans Schultes in the middle and/or late 1930s, for several years it was believed that this fungus was a sacred or divine mushroom among the Indians of Oaxaca. However, this was not so, those mushrooms were considered dangerous or poisonous. In fact, Panaeolus sphinctrinus is not psychoactive.
